Hello,

Gambhir here.

I felt the need to talk to you a bit about the yoga practice, since we have started the group and private yoga lessons for the community.

I am not going to talk to you about the benefits of yoga and meditation, because I think you already know most of them and, also, we have included a lot of information on the website.

Today I want to answer one of the questions that I get at least once a day 😊.

Why should I take yoga lessons (classes), when the internet is full of free videos with yoga routines for all the needs?

Yoga has been a popular form of exercise and mindfulness for thousands of years, offering a wide range of physical and mental benefits. However, many people who practise yoga do so without the guidance of a teacher, missing out on some of the most important benefits that come from practising with a trained professional.

First of all, our needs are different. Our bodies are different and our psychology is different. So, there is not one solution or routine that fits all needs. Having a teacher, even if you start a standard group program, can have a lot of benefits:

  • Improved technique and safety

One of the most important benefits of practising yoga with a teacher is the improved technique and safety that comes with having someone to guide and correct you. A teacher can help you to ensure that you are performing each pose correctly, reducing the risk of injury and maximising the benefits of the practice. This is especially important for those with limited flexibility or strength, as a teacher can offer modifications and alternatives to help you safely build strength and flexibility over time.

  • Deeper understanding of yoga philosophy and tradition

Yoga is more than just a physical practice; it is also a philosophical and spiritual tradition that has been passed down for thousands of years. Practising with a teacher can help you to deepen your understanding of this rich tradition, learning about its history, values, and practices. This can be particularly helpful for those who are looking to bring more mindfulness and intention into their daily lives, as the teachings of yoga offer practical wisdom and guidance for living a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

  • Customised practice

Every person has unique needs, limitations, and goals when it comes to practising yoga. Practising with a teacher allows you to receive a customised practice that is tailored to your individual needs, helping you to progress faster and more effectively towards your goals. Whether you’re looking to improve your flexibility, build strength, or reduce stress, a teacher can help you to create a practice that is suitable for your needs and goals.

  • Access to a supportive community

Yoga can be a very personal and solitary practice, but practising with a teacher and a group of fellow students can provide a supportive community that can help to deepen your practice and offer encouragement and motivation. Whether it’s participating in group classes, workshops, or retreats, practising with a community of like-minded individuals can be a powerful source of support and inspiration.

  • Improved confidence and body awareness

Practising yoga with a teacher can help to improve your confidence and body awareness, as you receive regular feedback and guidance on your practice. This can be especially helpful for those who are new to yoga or who have limited experience, helping to build the foundation for a safe and effective practice. With time, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of your body and how to move it in a way that feels safe and effective, allowing you to take your practice to the next level.

In conclusion, practising yoga with a teacher has a range of benefits that can help to deepen your practice and enhance your physical and mental well-being. Whether you’re new to yoga or have been practising for years, working with a teacher can help to improve your technique, deepen your understanding of the tradition, offer a customised practice, and provide a supportive community. So, if you’re looking to take your yoga practice to the next level, consider finding a qualified teacher to guide and support you on your journey.
